About the event

Crime Fiction runs the gamut from Cosies to Gritty Noir but there’s one approach which is guaranteed to have lovers of the genre salivating: A top class series. Join two Queens of the Crime-Writing genre as they consider why we love a crime series so much, what makes a series work, when does an author know it’s time to end a series, and whether a standalone can ever give as much pleasure as an ongoing series.

Elly Griffiths, perhaps most famous for her Dr Ruth Galloway Mysteries and the Brighton series, has won the CWA Dagger in the Library, and the Edgar Award in the US, has been shortlisted for the CWA Gold Dagger and has been shortlisted five times for the Theakston’s Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year. In February 2024 she will publish the second in the DS Harbinder Kaur series as well as preparing the launch in February 2025 of The Frozen People featuring a new character, police officer Ali Dawson, who travels back in time to research unsolved crimes.

Barbara Nadel is best known for her Cetin Ikmen novels set in Istanbul (and now filmed for Paramount+) as well as the London-set Hakim and Arnold Series and the World War 2 set Francis Hancock novels. Born in the East End of London, Barbara Nadel trained as an actress before becoming a writer. She has previously worked as a public relations officer for the National Schizophrenia Fellowship's Good Companion Service and as a mental health advocate for the mentally disordered in a psychiatric hospital. She has also worked with sexually abused teenagers and taught psychology in schools and colleges.
